AI Media Lab
The AI Media Lab is an initiative of the European Media Society programme exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on media, journalism and digital communication.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how information is created, distributed and consumed. AI systems increasingly shape media ecosystems through automated content production, algorithmic recommendation systems, data-driven targeting and emerging forms of generative media.
The AI Media Lab examines how these technological developments influence the structure of information environments and the ways citizens encounter and interpret media.
Understanding AI-driven media environments
The lab focuses on analysing how AI technologies affect the dynamics of contemporary communication, including:
- algorithmic recommendation systems and content visibility
- generative AI and automated content production
- AI-assisted journalism and media workflows
- data-driven media platforms and attention economies
- the societal implications of AI in public communication
By exploring these developments, the AI Media Lab aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how artificial intelligence is reshaping digital media ecosystems.
From technology to public understanding
While AI is often discussed in technical or regulatory terms, the AI Media Lab emphasises the importance of connecting technological developments with broader questions of media literacy, democratic communication and public understanding.
The lab therefore explores how insights about AI systems can be translated into:
- educational initiatives
- media literacy programmes
- public awareness projects
- research collaborations
- policy discussions on digital governance
Connecting research, media and society
The AI Media Lab seeks to connect researchers, journalists, educators and cultural organisations interested in the societal implications of artificial intelligence in media environments.
By bringing together perspectives from different disciplines, the lab encourages collaboration around emerging questions related to AI, information infrastructures and the future of digital communication.
European Media Society
The AI Media Lab forms part of the European Media Society programme developed by Altair Media Europe. Within this framework, the lab contributes to a broader exploration of media literacy, technological infrastructures and the evolving dynamics of digital public discourse.
